Itsy, bitsy spider …

‘Maman’ Sculpture

I saw this famous status by Louise Bourgeois when I first went to Mori Tower in Roppongi Hills, Tokyo in 2014. At that time, it felt familiar to me but I did not know why. When I was passing through Ottawa, Ontario this past year, I realized that there was duplicate at the National Gallery of Canada.

The statues are made of a bronze stainless steel but it always looks black to me due to the lighting of when I take the photos. My favourite final versions of my photos is when I frame the statue with the area around it and convert into B&W. It feels like the spider is taking over the area.

I confirmed with Wikipedia that these were permanent and that are a few more around the World as well. I will have to revisit this page in the future and add my photos once I tracked down the others.
